The Milwaukee Police Department is reintroducing Throwback Thursday, where each Thursday we highlight a member of MPD. This week we are highlighting Captain Shunta Boston-Smith.
Captain Shunta Boston-Smith joined the Milwaukee Police Department in 1995. As an Officer, she worked at District Five, District Seven and District Four. She was promoted to Sergeant in October 2001 and worked at Districts Two, Three, and Internal Affairs. In July 2007, she was promoted to Lieutenant and worked at District Two, Internal Affairs, District Four, District One and the Office of Management, Analysis and Planning.
She was promoted to Captain in August of 2015 and oversaw the Inspections Division. She was instrumental in MPD obtaining the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditations Group (WILEAG) accreditation. She also commanded District Three for two years, where building relationships in the community and crime reduction was the focus. She is currently in charge of the Investigative Management Division where she oversees the Forensics Division.
Captain Boston-Smith holds an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice- Law Enforcement from Milwaukee Area Technical College and a Bachelor Degree in Management in Criminal Justice from Concordia University. Summa Cum Laude. She graduated from the International Associations of Chiefs of Police Leadership in Policing Organizations, the 64th Session of Police Executive Research Forum-Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP), the Northwestern University Supervision of Police Personnel, and the Northwestern University Leadership and Decision Making.
