The Revitalized West Side

District Three is located on the west side of Milwaukee and comprises an 11.8 square mile area with a district population in excess of 100,000 residents.

Encompassing the major thoroughfare of Wisconsin Avenue and home to Marquette University, Miller Brewery, Harley Davidson Museum, Potawatomi Casino, Miller Park, Pettit National Ice Center and the Milwaukee County Zoo, District Three with increased focus and communication, has seen rapid revitalization in the form of capital investment, the establishment of retail districts and boosted tourism efforts, making it an up-and-coming area within Milwaukee.

District Three’s neighborhoods are known for its renowned businesses and attractions such as the Pabst Mansion, Master Lock, Palermos Pizza, Wood National Cemetery, Hmong Friendship and many more businesses, hospitals and educational facilities.

The MPD works closely with community organizers, aldermen and the Department of Neighborhood Service (DNS) to target quality of life issues and help address long term issues specific to the district.

The National Night Out event is a community building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and camaraderie to make the neighborhood a safer, more caring place to live. District Three hosts the largest National Night Out event in Milwaukee with over 1,500 attendees.

Walnut Way Conservation Corp founders

The Adams' are founders of the Walnut Way Conservation Corp. Their goal is to reclaim and redevelop the economic health and vitality of their community. They’ve restored dilapidated homes, built a vibrant community resource center, transformed vacant lots to gardens and orchards, developed new venues for economic development, created innovative wellness programs and engaged residents of all ages in the neighborhood.

This active neighborhood association has a highly organized block watch system. These neighbors work together to keep the neighborhood safe through proactive observing and reporting.

The Middle Ground Neighborhood Association banded together to create community gardens, host neighborhood-based social events and neighborhood cleanups, creating a cohesive group of active residents working together.

Washington Park Partners

Washington Park Partners (WPP) is a growing collaboration of residents, businesses, and agencies. As a concept to initiate community discussions surrounding neighborhood economic development opportunities, and the concern about quality housing options, WPP was introduced about 15 years ago by the Milwaukee chapter of a national community redevelopment agency, Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC).
